Winchester Christmas Market

Winchester Christmas Market

Winchester is a beautiful place at any time of the year, but at Christmas it's just next level lovely. Late November each year begins their Christmas Market (and ice skating rink) and it's always a must visit.

Less  'full of tat' than nearby Southampton Christmas Market, Winchester Christmas Market has plenty of local craft and business stalls - Winchester gin, handmade wreaths, painting, sculptures, cards, tasty treats and gift ideas galore.

I went along one bitterly cold Winters morning with my eldest daughter Holly and best friend Tanya to check out this years market, and of course, take some photos!

Of course no trip to Winchester is complete without a visit to the Cathedral. We happened to arrive at 10.20am - just in time for the Crpyt tour where we saw the famous Anthony Gormley sculpture.

This mysterious life-size statue of a man contemplating the water held in his cupped hands is the work of the celebrated British sculptor Antony Gormley. You can find Sound II, fashioned from lead out of a plaster cast of the artist’s own body, in the Cathedral crypt, which floods during rainy months.

Elsewhere in Winchester the wreaths are out in full force! Merry Christmas!
