Firstly, hello there! It’s been 6 weeks since I last posted anything. When we returned from our 3 weeks travelling I found my work responsibilities had temporarily increased and well, there’s been no time to blog.
A lot has been happening ‘on the home front’ though. We homed a dog from the Dog’s Trust (more on that soon!) and my eldest daughter landed at job in Southampton and will soon be moving in with us. A time of positive change.
I’ve sat down to write a ‘Life Lately’ post so many times over the past few weeks, a catch up, but something always stopped me. A crushing fear of not being good enough. Of my words not being well written, my photos being under par, my blog design not reflecting me. All of which by the way I know sounds silly, but one can’t help how one feels.
But although it sounds silly, it’s still important to say, to acknowledge. Without meaning to sound 50 shades of self help, that’s the trigger to addressing the bigger issues, for example why.
In a society where people are judged (not by all but by many) by how many ‘followers’ or ‘friends’ they have and how they engage, creating strategies and taking courses to boost their ‘likes’ in order to gain influence. Instagram is the biggest culprit for me personally, and I wasn’t at all surprised when it was labelled as ‘the worst social media channel for young people’s mental health‘.
The image focused observation struck a chord with me. I’m totally guilty of over analysing what I share on Instagram in a way that doesn’t happen with other platforms. I’m also guilty of not posting on my blog when I haven’t some photos to accompany that I deem good enough.
That’s something that I striving to change, starting now. I’m going to start blogging daily, even if it’s a paragraph with not a single photo. Because I’d like to be in a place where I just write or share and don’t get hung up about it.
This entire post probably just comes out as a mis-matched jumble of words and emotions with no actual point – but honestly, it’s really helped me to write – and publish.
