After we visited the beach at Kilve on a our recent Somerset short break we briefly stopped at Staple Plain. I say briefly, the children were exhausted from an afternoon of fresh sea air but I was pretty desperate to get a look at the Plain. These photos are just from the first little bit of the main ascent up, one day I hope to go back and complete the circular walk.

Staple Plain offers easy access and dramatic views. There’s a circular way-marked trails that leads from the car park over Beacon Hill where you can see stunning coastal views. If you have young children there’s also an ‘easy access’ pushchair-friendly trail form the car park that takes you through woodland to get smashing views of the Quantocks.

  1. Gorgeous photos, they remind me of being a kiddo and all the weekend walks we used to go on. My favourite was walking up Will’s Neck not that far from there, and I was always worried we’d actually find ‘her’ when we walked near Dead Woman’s Ditch!!
