Tomorrow see’s Bestival 2014 kick off on the Isle of Wight, Friday see’s Al and I heading over to join the fun. Bestival is THE festival for rewarding yourself for making it through the school Summer holidays in one piece, it’s a weekend of child-free fun, it’s a time to rekindle the love of gigs and music and so much more. I don’t know how else to describe it other than it’s more than a festival, it’s an experience.
The theme this year is Desert Island Disco and I cannot wait to see the Carnival Parade on Saturday afternoon, it’s always the best vibe, in fact the whole festival has a great atmosphere of happiness and love. Last years theme was under the sea and take a look at some of the costumes that I managed to snap:
With Desert Island Disco being the theme finding a costume proved a lot easier than last year. Al and I found Hawaiian shirts on eBay super cheap and visited Just for Fun fancy dress shop in Southampton, which I know is a firm fave with Bestival goers , where we bought disco afros, cool sunglasses and flowery garlands. I suspect there’ll be a lot of Hawaiian shirts and some grass skirts and coconut shell bras this year !
Line Up wise, it’s cracking as usual, naturally gutted that I’ll miss Beck on Thursday evening *mutters under breath* but bands I recommend seeing if you are going this weekend are:
Melt Yourself Down, Outkast, Foals, Busta Rhymes, Beck, Temples, The Wytches, SBTRKT, Major Lazer, Kiesza, Wild Smiles and for festival good vibes, The Cuban Brothers.
There’s so much good stuff going on at Bestival – and they are attempting to make THE WORLDS BIGGEST DISCO BALL and by jove I think they’ve done it – I cannot wait to see it for real!
Last year there was also this and it blew my mind – a ship in a field – with DJs, it’s there this year too..
And everyone else loved it too.
And while all that went on, above there were ariel acrobats on ribbons twirling aorund and crowd theatre, where they plucked what looked to everyone around to be ‘normal people’ out of the crowd into the air kicking and screaming – obviously they were trained acrobats being lifted up – but the theatre of it was so good people were genuinely wowed!
So that’s why I love Bestival – and this is just scratching the surface – roll on Bestival, you beautiful thing you!
