When I was a child we would holiday in Wales each year. I can remember collecting small pebbles along a beach, being taken by how shiny and vivid their colours were. I also recall thinking how dull those same pebbles looked a couple of hours later when they had dried out.
Odd how memories can come back to you isn’t it? Do you think these things spring closer to the front of your mind when you are sharing similar experiences with your own children?
Day 2 of A Year in Footsteps and Kitty was my faithful walking companion once again. I love times like this spent together. If you have more than one child to have some quality time to spend with one of them at a time to just walk, talk and just be together really in priceless.
After our beach walk we headed across the road from the beach car park to the North Solent Nature Reserve. The nature reserve walk is a small circular route which takes around half an hour to enjoy, and far longer in Summer when there’s more to see. I’t so close to the beach and yet when you are there it feels as thought you could be miles away from the coast.
We both spotted the classic sign that Spring is thinking about getting it’s act together, daffodils. I am beginning to wonder if cold, icy Winter is really going to visit us this time around, or if Spring might make an executive decision and bypass it altogether. Nature seems to have become a little confused this past year and I can’t help but have a niggling worry that that’s not a good thing.
Friendly robins and ducks, almost super-glued in pairs greeted us by this pond. And if you ever visit here when it’s warmer or less soggy, the area by the pond makes for a fab picnic spot.
Next to the view you see below is the most fab looking Hide, alas it’s kept under keypad lock entry and not open to the general public. I’ll be googling to find out how we can get inside to use it though as it must be an awesome place to sit and just look out and take the time to notice nature.
It only seems like a few weeks ago that people were sharing stunning photos of ferns unfurling, tight green balls, unwinding for Summer. Now golden, they appear to be winding back down once again.
To end, I just have to share this photo of Kitty because it sums up the happiness we both get from being outside, walking together…
