A good spot to explore with children in the New Forest
This week's half term which means I've had two little walking chums on my A Year in Footsteps walk. We parked up on Matley Wood car park (see the Matley car park here on the Forestry Commission's New Forest Car Parks map) and walked 300 yards along the road (the B3056) towards Lyndhurst, before crossing over the road and heading into the woodland , see the Forestry Commission barrier, walk in around that. You can't miss the tall pine trees!
This little wood is a cracking spot to explore with kids as they can follow the tracks or run off in amongst the trees, and even Ozzy, who is never keen on walking far, kept going for a good hour. It's also great there for finding woodland treasures (here's Kitty's finds!)
Obviously it's a big no-no to climb on timber stacks anywhere, but the very low down ones we did...
As you can see, Ozzy felt incredibly proud to conquer Mount Timber.
After the adventure you could always head to nearby Lyndhurst for a hot chocolate reward at one of the many great coffee shops and tea rooms!
