June! Hold the phone – that’s like halfway through the year! *falls to knees and raises a fist at the sky* Where’s my life going?
It’s been a smashing , outside my veggies are growing like wildfire, cabbages 40cm tall and more salad that I can shake some fancy beechwood tongs at. The birds have still got a thing for my lettuce. It’s really odd, I am about to go and sprinkle chilli powder on them, the lettuce not the birds, although… They seem to be singling out the Little Gem variety, they’ve been destroying it, who knew it was the crack cocaine of the bird-world? Something else a bit odd has been happening, once a day for the past 3 days a squirrel has been banging on my back door (and no that is NOT a euphemism). The patio doors, right by where I sit on the computer, pounding his little furry fists on the glass, eyeballing me. Could this be the beginning of the squirrel zombie apocalypse? Be afraid – be very afraid…
Photos this week are from my mothers garden following a day visit during half term last week, if you haven’t already seen it you might well like the post ‘Through the Collectable Keyhole‘, which is a look at some rather splendid vintage bits and bobs of hers. Oh and peonies have bloomed in grandads garden, something so lovely it warranted a post all of it’s own. I am loving the roses and lavender too at the moment, every year I plan to hunt out a lavender farm to visit but never have been to one – I need to get on the case!
And finally, I leave you with some pages from a book I was looking at at my mothers, I’ve developing quite a thing for old books. Whatever you have been doing in your garden – I do hope you have been enjoying it!
