The New Girl - Attack of the Yummy Mummys
Can you remember your first day at a new school how daunting that was, not the work that lay ahead of you, nah that was a walk in the park, it was your classmates and if yours were anything like some of mine they scared me witless! They had that new person aura of ‘I’m so much better than you’ (though they were probably thinking the same thing about everyone else too).
I had my beautiful baby girl just over three months ago now and though I am no Angelina Jolie I am slowly on the road to getting my figure back, but I am in that awkward phase of nothing fits me, my maternity clothes make me look like a walking three man tent with room for a wet dog and my pre-pregnancy clothes (especially my jeans) mock me as I stare longingly at the wardrobe as if to say ‘pah fat chance and we mean FAT’. I also refuse to buy new clothes as a) I will fit into my old ones (soon, maybe a few months, maybe a year...damn it I’m depressed *reaches for the chocolate*) and b) I don’t actually know what size I am anymore, I’ve just lost track. So my daughter is impeccably dressed ( though her hair refuses to do anything but stand on end...it’s a statement, shes an individual I chant to myself whilst trying to hold her still enough to pull the brush through her wily locks) and me well I am a walking fashion disaster, but at least I’m dressed!
When Melody (my daughter) was a month old I hardly managed to get out of my nightdress never mind brush my old hair, so there I would stand welcoming my husband home from a hard days work looking like the cat had dragged me through several bramble bushes and the brook next to the house. But my husband doing his husbandly duty through gritted teeth would tell me I was beautiful and I would laugh in his face, thrust the usually sleeping baby (she always fell asleep as daddy appeared Grrrr) and run off for a shower. At two months old I had a friend come round to visit, I had managed to get Melody dressed and opened the door to welcome her in a t-shirt socks and pants (a step further than the nightdress phase). So now I congratulate myself that I am fully dressed but a spanner has been thrown into my fashion works.....
Yummy Mummies, not just that Yummy SKINNY Mummies. Just the thought of them with their skinny jeans, pert t-shirts and droolable over handbags ...and this is at the parent and baby swim class. So not just do I have to stand in a line with them feeling like a hippo in a herd of long limbed giraffe I have to see them and stand with them in swimwear! So there’s little squat me in my swimsuit (red I made some effort) hair scrapped back in a hairband standing next to eleven long limbed bikini clad YMs (Yummy Mummies) holding their cherubic babies and toddlers, whilst I hold my beautiful little girl who dispite all efforts with the forementioned hairbrush looks like she’s had her fingers in an electric socket!
So please, if there is a fairy godmother for us slummy mummys please, please either make the YMs disappear into their own gorgeous designer handbags or send me a new wardrobe and a hairnet for Melody’s hair!
