126. HDYGG? Nerine Display at Five Arrows Gallery, Exbury Gardens.

Nerine display at Exbury Gardens 2015

I’ve a bit of a mixed bag for How Does Your Garden Grow? this week. I recently popped along to local Exbury Gardens to check out the annual Nerine display in the Five Arrows Gallery. I do love Nerines but find taking photos in the gallery very challenging, the yellow artificial light and the glitter added to the petals (which I’m personally not a fan of) make things, how can I put it, flipping hard work. Hence the back and white shots. You may be sat there thinking ‘oh it’s a shame they aren’t in colour’ but honestly it’s not, they look artificial beneath the indoor lighting.

But of course we can’t have a colour-free HDYGG, that just wouldn’t be cricket, so here’s a short, sharp blast of the good stuff to sate your appetites!

  1. Really love them in black and white, shows off the petal structure and the pics look 3D. Can’t beat a bit of glitter on flowers 😉

  2. I think the black and white ones are very deep and rich. I love bringing clippings in to photograph against black backgrounds. For some reason, I think it gives them even more life when sucking all the colour out. Beautiful Annie.

  3. The black and white photos are stunning, you don’t often see flowers like this, but actually they look amazing!
Loving the orange flowers, perfectly autumnal.

  4. Am doing a super quick link up with my limited internet and will catch up with other posts in a week when I am back on unlimited access. Your post made me smile as today a friend and I were discussing using black and white for flower photos and I took a very similar heather picture but discarded it as the focus was all wrong! BTW those black and white nerines are very sexy!!

  5. Interesting post . Have tried Nerine bulbs for the first time this year ……..and it looks like just one will flower ! Maybe they need to establish first …… planted the bulbs almost on the surface , like told , finger’s crossed I’ll have a better show next year !

  6. nice to be hit with a smack of pink as i scrolled through the black and white photos. I’m loving all the daisy photos I’m seeing posted from various countries
