Well we did it! Snowdon is officially TeamHonk’s biatch (or possibly I think our legs are Snowdons biatch). We came, we saw, we conquered, we sipped the gin and raised over £5,000 (so far) in the process. It’s a great feeling indeed. Although I thought I wasn’t going to be able to climb with them I found that I felt much better on the day so dosed myself up and set off with them ‘just for the first bit’ under the understanding that I turned round after the first hour or so. I think the brownies softened them up a bit though and I joined them till the end. It was tough work for a group of very mixed abilities but we got on really well and it was a joy to be with such wonderful folk.
Above: Some of the team getting limbered up. And by ‘limbered’ I mean putting on red knickers obvs. Left to right: Hannah (CupCakeMumma), Laura (myinternalworld), Nikki (Stressy Mummy), Steph (I’m Counting UFOs), Bruce (@bruceb_uk) and Danielle (It started with a Squish)
Above: We squirreled yummy brownies into our bags which had been kindly sent from Gower Cottage Brownies to keep us going – they were awesomeness just when we needed it!
Tanya (Mummy Barrow) lives up to her name and plays mummy – making sure that everyone has brownies, taking messages to text on to loved ones, taking photos and slipping me a couple of tins of gin. For medicinal purposes naturally. Left to right: Kim Fleming who came with her son and Henry the hoover ( I kid you not), Kate (Kate Takes 5), Tanya, Marit and Al (kind hearted guides) and Gemma (Hello it’s Gemma).
Above: The first bit of the climb was jolly civilized indeed with some great views
Above: The sunshine meant that although it was freezing it felt a bit warmer.
Above: We stopped for a short break before heading up the steep bit – with Laura (myinternalworld)
Above: Mummy Barrow”s son Jonnie and Kim’s son Miles being very naughty boys. Respect to Jonnie (left) for a. carrying my camera and b. representing ‘da yoof’ with skinny jeans.
Above: “Hey Steph? Want a peanut butter and banana sandwich?” Left to right: Kate (Kate Takes 5), Mari (Mari’s World), Danielle (It started with a Squish), Penny (The Alexander Residence), Steph (I’m counting UFOs), Gemma (Hello it’s Gemma), Marit, Al, Leela and Emma (bunnypudding)
Above: That was our rough route up! Not that you can tell but it was icy, rubbly and rather steep. Squeaky bum time.
Above: Emma (bunnypudding) stops on the way up to admire the view ( of the scenery not the red knickered bottoms)
Above: Once the tough bit was over we took another well deserved break – note Mari’s Bride to Be sash – the woman is a flipping legend, do you know that she postponed her hen night to join us?
Above: Hannah (CupcakeMumma) takes 5 at the top of the slippery slip. Nice tutu too (try saying that after a few bacardi breezers)
Above: Mummy Barrow‘s husband Bruce kindly shows me where the nearest off licence is.
Above: Mari (Mari’s World) aka Smokin’ Hot Mamma wears the regulation red pants as kindly sent by Becky of Who Made Your Pants? To the right Jonnie, Mummy Barrow’s son enjoys the view …
Above: Kate (Kate Takes 5) re-charging her batteries – not that she needed to, the woman ran 17k just two days before. Epic lady.
Above: Jennifer (Jennifer’s Little World) happy to be out of the car with Steph and myself and our dubious motorway games to kill time in traffic jams.
Above: Blatant gratuitous pantie shot. Starring Danielle (It started with a Squish) and Steph (I’m Counting UFOs)
Above: Gemma (Hello it’s Gemma), leader of the pack, organiser of guides, motivational speaker and all round love shizzle muffin.
Above: Steph (I’m Counting UFOs or as I like call it I’m Counting on you Fonz -Ayyyyy *double thumbs up*) basking in ultimate Snowdon conquering glory. This is before her legs died the day after.
Above: Greg (Whiskey for Aftershave) hits the topAbove: The view from the top
Now that’s over can I just say ‘OH MY FREAKING WORD MY LEGS ARE KILLING ME. KILLING ME I SAY!’ *hobbles off to run another hot bath*
Someone pass me a gin. I am begging you…
Huge thanks to:
Everyone who took part, everyone who sponsored us, Clare Balding for all the smashing re-tweets (go #TeamBalders!).
To Gower Cottage Brownies for making the whole thing more enjoyable through gooey scrumptiousness
To Hi-Tec for sending us some fabulous merino wool walking socks – and I haven’t one single blister – not bad for someone who hadn’t even worn her new walking boots ey?
To the Youth Hostel Association for providing us with free meals and packed lunches (peanut butter and banana sarnies = yummo) – hot food was most welcomed indeed!
And of course it’s never too late to sponsor - http://my.rednoseday.com/sponsor/TeamHonkSnowdonChallenge - thank you!
