For this weeks #WeLoveForests I’m sharing some photos from a lovely morning stroll around Blackwater Arboretum Sensory Trail in the New Forest.

To get to Blackwater Arboretum you drive through Rhinefield Ornamental Drive, which in itself is a smashing experience. There’s also a Tall Trees Trail, which I’ll share photos from soon,  but I digress. Back to Blackwater Arboretum, it looking stunning at this time of year, leaves of all colours on display and when a gust of wind blows tiny birch leaves fall like snow on you. Bliss. The pathway is graveled and is wheelchair and pushchair friendly. There are plenty of benches and a few picnic tables, I’ll be taking my children there next week in the half term school hols so we can enjoy a thermos of soup and crusty rolls on a picnic table surrounded by the reds, golds and greens – I can’t express just how pretty it looks at the moment. If you live int he New Forest or are visiting soon it’s well worth a visit.

The sensory trail encourages people to use their senses to discover the many different smells, textures and sounds of these trees.

The path is a fairly smooth gravelled surface with one very gentle slope and frequent resting places. Short level paths with seats and picnic tables make this a pleasant destination in any season.
