Half Moon Common, New Forest

I WALK the *footpath* line

I WALK the *footpath* line

Like so many walks, it started with a pathway, forged from feet before us, feet from people, horses, cows and over-excitable dogs whose tails wag nine-to-the-dozen as they are released from boots of family hatchbacks.

My walking companion on Day 1 was my 6 year old daughter, Kitty. Post-New Years Day roast dinner at the in-laws our bodies were destined for one of two things - a half-hearted afternoon nap by the fire or a cold-nosed brisk Winter's walk. Masters of our fate, we chose the walk. And it was quite the walk - windy, drizzly, muddy. A hold-onto-your-hats sort of afternoon, literally. We ran down an incline, each committing one gloved hand to holding on to each other, the other clamping our wooly headgear on tight.

Finally as we ended our walk, Kitty took out a solitary toffee from her pocket, given to her in an attempt to loosen her very wobbly front tooth. Before I knew it she held out a half chewed toffee in the palm of her hand, the smallest, most perfect tooth I ever did see sticking out proud from it.

'Time to go home mummy, I need to find an envelope to put this in for the Tooth Fairy'

An eventful start to my A Year in Footsteps, here's hoping we can survive Day 2 with full sets of teeth all round.

A YEAR IN FOOTSTEPS

Every day in 2015 I will go for a walk. No two walks the same, every day somewhere new to discover.
